HISTORY OF THE STMA WOMEN OF TODAY
Our History
In March of 1984, the Anoka Jaycee Women extended a new Jaycees chapter in St. Michael with seven charter members, named the St. Michael Area Jaycee Women. The charter members: Kathy Allex, Trudy Becker, Barb Liefert, Donna Mattson, LuAnn Petersen, Kathy Weber, and Sandy Zachman.
We started out in District 30, renumbered to District 18 the following year. In 1985, we chartered and became new members of the Minnesota Women of Today. The first project, in April 1984, was Lunch with the Bunny. Over 100 children attended! On May 1, 1987, the chapter became part of District 17. Then on May 1, 1990, we became part of District 13, and on May 1, 1996, we became part of District 12. We are now part of District 6. As of May 1, 2023, District 6 includes STMA with chapters from Big Lake, Elk River Area, Hutchinson Area, Monticello, and Rogers/Otsego/Dayton.
The chapter has enjoyed tremendous success, thanks to outstanding follow-up done by the Anoka chapter, the dedication and commitment of the chapter members who started the tradition, and the new members who continue to make our chapter strong.
